Boyd’s Speedway hosted the Cabin Fever Races on 31 January. 140 cars answered the call to race in the Super Late Model class, Crate Late Model class, A-Hobby Class, B-Hobby Class and the Pony Class at the third-mile clay oval.
Riley Hickman scored his second-straight Cabin Fever 40 victory on a cool late-January evening at Boyd’s Speedway.
The Chattanooga driver led all forty laps for the $3,000 payday. Hickman held off Donald McIntosh of Dawsonville, GA, Pierce McCarter of Sevierville, TN, Cory Hedgecock of Loudon, TN. and Jason Hiett of Oxford, AL for the victory.
Five caution flags slowed the main event. The first yellow was on lap 12 as Adam Martin went around in turn two and his night was over as he had to be towed in to the pits with mechanical woes. The next yellow flag was on lap 15 as Tony Knowles came to a rest at the top of turn four. The next lap, the yellow would wave as Ryan Gifford would spin his Team Dillon Racing entry in turn two. Gifford was running just outside the top-five at the time of the yellow. On lap 22 Derek Ellis came to a rest at the top of turn four and the final yellow would wave on lap 26 as third place runner Ray Cook came to a stop after engine failure. Track crews had to go to work quickly as speedy dry had to be used all around the speedway after Cook’s mount leaked oil around the top of the track.
Hickman, the defending SAS Champion and former SRRS champ drove the Vic Hill Racing Engines powered CVR Race Car to the event win.
Todd Morrow led the way in the Crate Late Model Class with a fast time of 15.408 seconds of the 42 Crate Late Models. Trent Low and Ethan Hunter won the two heat races that would line them up behind the top qualifiers.
At the drop of the green flag, Morrow’s #8 was the dominant car. Morrow was extending his lead when he caught the tail end of the pack, while passing the slower cars Morrow and the second place car of Bobby Richey Jr. tangled to bring out the only caution of the 30-lap feature. The two cars were given back their respective positions. Morrow battled with McCoy and Welshan for the remainder of the race.
Morrow took the checkered flag and the $1000 victory check. Bobby Richey Jr, Travman McCoy, Jason Welshan and John Owenby followed him to the checkered flag.
Booger Brooks won the A-Hobby Main Event, Michael Brooks won the B-Hobby Main Event and Michael Courtney won the Pony Main Event.

Boyd’s Speedway will return to action on Saturday evening March 21st with the $4,000-to-win Southern Nationals Bonus Series-sanctioned event. It is part of a double-header weekend with Cleveland (Tenn.) Speedway which will host the series on Friday Night March 20th paying $4,000-to-win.
